1841 & 1851 Bradford Manchester
« on: Sunday 06 February 05 17:48 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find where Peter McEwen born 1833 in Bradford is in 1841 & 1851. In 1861 he is in Ashton under Lyne age 27 living with his wife and children and is down as being born in Bradford Yorkshire. His father Peter is also in Ashton. The local history library in Ashton tell me that Bradford Yorks was often put on the census when they were actually born in Bradford Lancs (not too far from Ashton). If anyone has the info for Bradford Lancs I would appreciate it if they could look this up for me.

Many thanks

Shelagh

Hello Shelagh

it's an oldie..................is it completed? if not..................

I can't actually see a Peter McEwen aged 27 living in Ashton Under Lyne in 1861.............I can see one aged 16 with his father George aged 38

if it isn't completed can I have all in the household in 1861 with the info that goes with them.............my info supplier has probably mistranscribed the name

Bryant
Researching names BRYANT (Camberwell), PASTERFIELD (Essex and all), RAY (Holborn/Islington areas back to Brentford), POWELL (Glouc & beyond?)
Fletcher (Glouc into Warwickshie into Lancs?), BUCKLEY (Chatham area), Watson (Chatham area).

Thank you for spending the time looking. I eventually found him in 1841 in Manchester with his brother George (the one you found in 1861 in Ashton) but his name is down as McCome.

In 1851 he is in Wood St in Ashton but his name is spelt McOwen and George is in Crab St Ashton but spelt McQuen. This is what makes family history research so tricky.

In 1861 they are living in Wellington St Ashton RG9 2982/51b and the members of the household are

Peter McEwen Head age 27 Umbrella Maker Bradford Yorkshire
Margaret Do Wife age 26 Manchester lancashire
Francis Do Daughter age 5 Ashton under Lyne
Peter Do 3 months Son         Do

Thanks again for your time

Hi  Shelagh
Not sure if you are still using this site , but you might be able to help me .
you see I have also been trying to find my family tree of Mcewen and I believe the Francis you have listed  @ Old St is  my Great x 3 Grandmother . I believe she had a daughter Margaret in 1881 . Who was my Grandad's Mother ...
if you have any further information you are willing to share I would be most grateful .

regards
Greybo .
