6th generation BROOKING (james & Jemima)
« on: Thursday 04 December 08 18:41 GMT (UK) »
Hello ALL:

I am a 6th generation decendent of James Brooking (b. 1810) and Jemima Dart (b. 1820).  I live in the US and my Great Great Grandma Margaret M Brooking was the daughter of James & Jemima.

My tree has no history prior to James & Jemima.  I hope the names and birth dates are enough for some one to take notice.

Both were from Newton Abbot, Torquay, Devon, England

Thank you for any info you may have.

Jim

when was Margaret born ? Theres a candidate in 1851 - right area, but not right parents ....

a Jemima was in Tor moham in 1841, with a very young infant Sarah - no male present (not that the 1841 shows relationships, but can normally be deduced

Hi both and welcome Jim  :)

Sorry Newf - was typed  :-\

Not much help with the parents but here's possibly a sister ...

1841 census
HO107/229 7 6 7
Tormoham, Devon

Ann Dart, 30, Seamstress, born in county
Jemima Brooking, 25, Seamstress, born in county
Sarah Brooking, 1, born in county

I too think Jemima = Jane in 1851 btw

Any idea what the M stood for? The daughter of Jemima and James seems to have been plain Margaret, but there is also a Margaret Martin Brooking born about the same time, parents William and Margaret ...

Jemima was older than you think by the way, if she was 25 (=between 25 and 29) in 1841.

Can you see a death for Jemima Brooking in 1851 Newf?  ???
