:-\ Always best to give all information. Not only does it prevent repeat searching, but also the saving of a few credits.

hume24,
you never cease to impress me.
More often than not, you find that wee bit extra.

Excellent point about sharing what research has already been done.

Morning..I thank you very much for the info. The religion was Roman Catholic, that is also stated on the son marriage cert , his parents name were on the marriage that is how I came to have them in the beginning. this is what I have for Isabella it states a Mcdonald and Mcarthur, sorry I spealt Angus wrong.. I spealt the girls name instead of the man's name...
I appricate all the help and I thank you for the Marthur names will check them out and see what I can find on them..Karen
I've just noticed that there is a decriptance in the death date?? I'm hoping there isn't another Isabella Mcauthur Begley?? this was applied in May 1869 and I have her death as of jan 1869?? Now I'm really getting confused...

After John's death there were 3 occasions when Isabella applied for poor relief. The first was January 1859. She said her parents were dead and she applied on the grounds of Ill health and no earnings. She applied in Kilmorivay-Assume must be near Fort William. At that time her Uncle Angus McArthur (Think and not McDonald ?) was still alive. In her application she states and Inspector of Kilmorivay Workhouse met her on the canal bank and gave her 1 shilling and some refreshments, he said he'd pay her aliment when she was home with body of Clement McDonald to Brackllette?? 6 years ago. At that time James, Alex and John were soldiers and Archibald worked at the quay.
Second Application was again to Kilmorivay and was in May 1869. This tells us that she and John Begley were married for  32 yrs, by Father ??? in Paisley, states John Begley was born in Ireland . She states that James and Alex were born in Young Street but usual residence was 24 school Wynd and John was born in Neilston, he was a hammerman.

Hello Karen,

I don't think you have two women of the same name. More likely the poor application was made before Isabella's death but was only considered and/or granted after it. The money may have then been shared among her children but I would probably think the poor board would not allow this.

If her uncle Angus was still alive in 1859, there should be a death certificate for him - have you tried searching for it under both M*cArthur and M*cDonald, presumabely in the Kilmonivaig area? Provided the information is on the certificate, this would give you Isabella's grandparents either on her maternal or paternal side.
