BALLYQUILLANE
« on: Wednesday 03 December 08 10:20 GMT (UK) »
I am hoping someone can help me shed light on a mystery. My great grandparents, EDWARD BYRNE and CATHERINE McCABE, lived in a place called BALLYQUILLANE  in Co. Laois in 1896. It no longer exists. In the Parliamentary Gazetteer of 1844 it said it was 3.5 miles south of STRADBALLY, and it was touched or traversed by the road from THURLES to ATHY.  The local council have never heard of it. I tried Googlebooks and one of them stated it was in TIMOGUE.

I am looking to find the church (Catholic) that they would have attended and where they are buried. I have had no success so far. Can anyone help? Thank you in advance.

Kindest regards,

Nora

No idea if this is the correct place as it's not in Barony of Stradbally but it's the closest I could come to 'Ballykillane' in Queen's Co.:

Ballykillane, Coolbanager Parish, Mountmellick Poor Law Union, Barony of Portnahinch.

Hopefully someone with local knowledge will be able to help.

Thank you so much for your offer of a copy of your map of the area outside Stradbally. That would be really helpful. How did you want to get it to me? If you need to post it to me I will pay all costs incurred. I can send you my address in a private email. I really appreciate your kindness.

Kindest regards,

Nora

To send a PM (personal message) go to a post of the person you wish to contact and click the little green scroll under their username on the left side of the post. Write out you message in the box, add a subject heading if desired then click the 'send' button.

The burial place for your kin would possibly be Clopoke cemetery which is in the Ballyadams/Luggacurran area. The records I have show some Byrne but not the names you require.
If you send a message with you e-mail to the site below I will forward the cemetery list.

Jack

THE parish (Ballyadams) now so named comprises the old parochial divisions of Ballyadams, Tullomoy, Ballyquillane, Fontstown or Balmtubber, Tecolme, and part of Rathaspick.
