I just noticed that for $16.50 you can have a service record digitised on the website only. $25 for photocopy and inclusive in the price, the
option to have the record digitised and placed the on website. You will find this if you proceed as to order.
Birth certs would be available. However you will only get the following information for births in South Australia the period
1908-1979
* Date and Place of Birth
* Name
* Father's name, Age, Occupation, Residence, Birthplace
* Mother's name, Age, Residence, Birthplace
* Year of parents Marriage
* Number of Issue Living and Deceased
* Informant
As there is no father's name on the index there will be no further information about him on the certificate.
No need to purchase expensive birth certs in SA. You can order a transcription for $15. Certs in South Australia are $38 - price increased on the 1 Jul 2008.
http://www.saghs.org.au/research.htm#transcriptionI doubt there would have been a legal adoption in that period...I think the grandparents just raised the child as their own and often the mother was a 'sister'.
There are some good resource links at the top of the board..go to
Emigrants to Australia
>Australian Resources
>South Australian Resources.
Perhaps have a browse.
