Can anyone help with information about Thomas Baker, born circa 1756, died Twyford Farm, Compton Abbas, Dorset; buried 2 March 1835? He was a farmer. I think his wife's name was Ann.

Hi,
The burial of Thomas Baker is shown as 2 Mar 1835 , aged 79 of Twyford on the Compton Abbas page of
www.opcdorset.com
Also on the Compton Abbas page is list of Memorial inscriptions from the old churchyard of St Mary's, which has details of a Thomas Baker, wife Mary, their 7 children plus some other family members.

Hi,
Have you looked at the "Dorset Militia Ballot List for 1798" on the Compton Abbas page on the opc site? A Thomas Baker is mentioned as the tithingman for Compton Abbas West.
Thomas Baker is also on the list of Wills; there might be more information there.
There is also a link to contact the OPC for Compton Abbas who might be able to find some more information for you.

Hi
I saw your post about Thomas Baker who died at Twyford Farm. I have his wife as Mary but I do not know her surname yet. I have found a Baker family living at Shalbourne, Wilts.
After doing a parent search their children seem to look right with Tomas's family.
What is your interest in this family as Thomas 1755 was my husband's 4Xgreatgrandfather.

well thats good. I thought we must have a common interest . What do you think of my thoughts on Thomas? By the way my husbands line is through Thomas 1755, Thomas 1784 and then Sarah 1820 who married John Miller.

The Shalbourne family could well be the same - is there any other evidence locally to support the idea? My son-in-lae's line is via Thomas 1755, Thomas 1786, Joseph 1817, James William 1863, Joseph James 1903 and finally Osmund Richard 1930.
