Hi Jenn and Lauren

The marriage was 1848 Jenn - before civil registration - little information.

I found this information on the IGI, it might be the family

John Campbell married Janet MacDonald 16 FEB 1827   Latheron, Caithness, Scotland
which is where the family were living on the 1841 Census

Helen baptised 4 Oct 1829 Latheron
Christian (female) born 29 May 1831 baptised 5 Jun 1831 latheron
Elizabeth born & baptised 13 Feb 1833 Latheron

all have parents John Campbell and Janet McDonald

These three tie in with 3 of the  children in 1841 - Helen 11, Christina 9 and Eliza 7

It is possible Margaret was born before the marriage?
Also on the IGI  baptism Margaret Campbell  8 Nov 1822 Latheron, father John (Mother's name is not given on these early dates in Latheron). Given the rounding of age in 1841, this could be daughter Margaret.

I don't easily see the youngest two born in Caithness. There is a Jane of the right age wrong parents

Hello Jenn and Trish,

I always forget about the familysearch website lol.
those details do seem to fit with the census...

the marriage of James and Christina in 1847 is very limited just says their name, residence (brisbane) where married the priest's name and witness and date.....no mention of parents of immigration. perhaps a death cert may have more info in 1881 but not sure that it will ...

Thanks for this help ladies,
Lauren

So  they were married in Brisbane not Maryborough.  Did  they  move to Maryborough?.

She did seem  rather young to have come to Australia alone and marry at 16 though not unusual.

Whoever gave the information for the death certificate did at least knew her parents names so  you  could get a bit more information from it, it will also include time in the colonies.

this is a link to what is on Australian Birth certificates, you will see that if  you were to  buy one  of  the childrens birth certificates after 1856  you  will get a bit of information from that as well.

Hello again,

sorry the other family i am searching is maryborough arghhh so sorry to confuse things...

it says in the parish of St John Brisbane in the County of Stanley New South Wales 1847.......which is now Nundah, Qld in recent times.

i might get to the certificate after christmas....just wanted to know as much info as i can as i am trying to write a story for a publication on early pioneers of Qld....families living in Qld before the separation from NSW. closes end of the month.

Nevermind if we cant find it now then we cant find it simple as that....

Yeah i though it was odd that she should come out so young by herself....but perhaps she was getting in to trouble and was shipped off....and odd that some of the children didnt follow....i know she was heavily pregnant when married James....child is listed as James' so she must have been here in 1846 to get pregnant......hmmmm he was 32 when he married and she was 16 half he age lol

thanks again
Lauren

No you will have to  order  the certificates  and Queensland is very very slow at  the moment at the BDM  can  take you  around 10weeks.

Ancarred mentioned the State Library on another thread. They have a book covering immigrants from  1831
