Thankyou lizdb and AMBLY for all your detective work that you've both put in today sorry I've not got back sooner but I've been out at work all day needs must!!AMBLY asked if I was sure about John Womacks place of birth well I made a mistake I was looking at a copy of  his marriage certificate that said he lived at Spinkhill at the time of his marriage, but I do have copies of the 1851&1861 census that say he was born in Barlborough, but after that info on John (my Great Grandad) the search went cold.
You said it would be interesting to see what info they gave on their marriage cert well it says D O M 4th July 1872 (I wonder if that date signifies the American connection)John Womack age 25 years, bachelor, occupation Carter(whatever that is),residence Spinkhill Eckington (father Joseph Womack dec)a farmer.
Maria Houghton (spelt differently to the one you have but I suppose thats how they get mis-transcribed)age 23 years, spinster, no occupation, res,Spinkhill Eckington,(father Richard Houghton a coal miner.
I'm surprised to see that Maria was born in North America.
I suppose  Sarah Ann could have been Mary Ellen's half sister,Mary Ellen was my Grandma and she named one of her daughters Sarah Ann,she must have named her after her.
Anyway thanks again for all your hard work.
