Different names for parent & child?

  I finally found my great grandmothers 1st name Annie Bloomer and she and her siblings have a differnet surname to their parents on the census. I have seen this before with others but it has stated step daughter/son. This doesn't. Any ideas???

it'll start with RG if its 1861 onward, HO if 1841/51

a typical 1901 would be RG13 / PIECE number / Folio number / Page num ....

no worries, just tell me which census year, and her age and PoB ...

I've seen this where step children (sometimes referred to as "in laws") have not been mentioned specifically as step children.  The children's mother was married previously, and her children are listed under the surname of her previous husband.  Sometimes illegitimate children of the mother, not fathered by the husband, are listed in the mother's maiden name, but this is much more rare.

OK;   I  F the Enumerator faithfully copied the schedule, then they just chose to say that as the kids relationship - altho I'd agree they are probably step

have you looked at marriages ?

No obvious marriages of a Fred Allsop* to an Alice in the district...

This Birth Cert should provide more clues ..
