William Bond's Quill sharpener

In 1855 John Martin arrived in Australia from Somerset with his wife Matilda and their Children

Matilda was a daughter of William Bond and Ann Bond nee Colley.  I have located Matilda's  Baptism under the name Mithilla Bond in Shepton Montague on 20 May 1804.  When John and Matilda married  22 January 1840 in West Camel, Matilda's  father William Bond was listed as a was Farmer.

When the family arrived in Australia they brought with them a Ivory handled quill sharpener which  has been handed down through Family. The family legend is that the Quill sharpener was owned by William Bond who was a Church of England Registrar.

Has anybody any idea how I can confirm that William was a Church of England Registrar, also what duties would a Registrar perform.

The Registrar is the legal officer of a diocesan bishop, who advises the bishop on legal matters, issues legal documentation pertaining to the clergy, keeps the necessary records, and acts on behalf of the Chancellor in issuing faculties and common licences for marriage.

Today  the Registrar must have a general qualification within the meaning of section 71 of the Courts and Legal Services Act 1990, learned in the ecclesiastical laws and laws of the realm.
The Registrar of a province of the Church of England is appointed by the archbishop of that province, and the registrar of a diocese by the bishop of that diocese. They must also be a communicant of the Church.

I am searching for a William Bond from Shepton Montague, his son william was b abt 1793-1796 and married a Mary Shears/Sheers in 1826 they had 3 boys and 3 girls, youngest son Alfred came to NZ. Any connection or do you have any info or contatcs that might help me.
