Gunnings of Cold Ashton
« on: Saturday 29 November 08 20:25 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I have an ancestor called Hannah Gunning and I want to find out who her parents were.  I believe she was from Cold Ashton and was born about 1803.

Hi,

This is the only baptism I can find for a Hannah Gunning in Cold Ashton near to the year you gave:-

No other details, sorry  :(

Thanks for that.  I got 1803 from census information but I know how unreliable they can be.  Her dob could be as late as 1806 but I will look into this one.  I don't really know that area and I have found some references recently to Bitton?

The Gunnings look as if they were a large family in that district.

Hi

I've found references to the Hannah b 1798 Bitton and have more or less ruled her out but so far no info on a Thomas and Mary at Cold Ashton.

Does anyone have info on this couple like their marriage or any other siblings of Hannah.

Hi

I've found a few more leads on the census.

Please could someone look up the christening of a Cornelius Gunning about 1785 Cold Ashton.  He appears to have married a Martha Baker in abt 1806 and had several children.  He was living in Swainswick, with several other Gunning households, possibly sons - Charles b abt 1806, Thomas abt 1813, John abt 1810 and Elias abt 1817.

The other person I am interested in is William b 1796 to 1801 with a mother Jane b about 1762 again in Swainswick i think in 1841
