There have been no notifications via email to me for some reason so I was not aware of  the recent replies to this thread.

I checked out your website, Celia, and found it most interesting for the USA. I regularly visit some of the sites mentioned just in case one of my US names turns up in new material.

Whilst searching around California newspaper sites I found that some of the local libraries offer remote online access to library card holders of their historic newspaper holdings. This could be the case in other libraries in the USA or the UK and would be worth investigating.

New Zealand has the wonderful free online resource  of Paperspast so if you have family who emigrated it would be worthwhile checking  out.

KiwiRose.
The American Historical newspapers seem to go way past 1900.Thats where ours stops on most of them.

I put this website  in the common room last night it gives all the free to view American websites all over America.

Many thanks for this link Celia, I've tried some US Paper link sites before but it was heavy going.  This time I found much news about a Family connection " Times Correspondent" thro' the years & his Son in later life after WW2 giving an interview in Florida. Betteer than just the bare bones of BMDs.

cheers Wendy

I'm not sure whether or not to tack this bit of news onto this thread or begin a new one however here goes. (Someone wiser than me may feel that it needs  to be put on other boards.)

I read this morning  that Google is adding more historical newspapers to its collection. They have purchased the Paper of Record collection  PaperofRecord.com  The papers are mostly Canadian though there are some from the USA, Mexico and Europe. You will have to wait  a month or so before they can be viewed.

I have just had a look at the website www.paperofrecord.com/search and they have historical papers from many other places around the world than I mentioned earlier.

Have a look and enjoy yourselves.
