Hello down-under and wozzle!   ;D  Golly, while I was halfway across the planet sleeping, you have been sooo busy!  AND, you  have found out so much about these parents!  Yes, you are correct - there was a large age difference between William and Henrietta! And, their daughter's full name was Sarah Frances Mabel Thompson - so apparently she must have been called by one of her middle names: Mabel!  I am in awe of the fantastic job of sleuthing you did!  THANK YOU so very much. Pat - It's Patrick again! Henrietta and William Thompson had 5 children. Francis William, William Frederick Dobson and Francis Stewart died young. Sarah Francis Mabel (1880-1954) married Frank Swann and there are grandchildren with the names Swann and Briggs in the USA and Canada. Frederick Charles had 2 children, Peter and Joyce, but I have no information about them.
Best wishes,    Patrick.

Sue 6591/Janan,

Sue,

Re your message about William Keates,  there is a possibility that the older William may have been born in Somerset.

I have found reference to a family of Keates's who came from the Evercreech/Brewham/Hardway area of Somerset and from whom I am descended.  If you Google The Bull Inn in Hardway and Keates you should come across a lease of the pub which passed from a Nicholas Keates to his brother William and then William's son John.  I am presently trying to tie up the relations of these people.  I have established that the John and the William referred to in the lease were from the places you mention in Sussex (and therefore not my direct line) but it is curious that the same given names should appear in the family in Somerset and this lease relate to the same village.  To me it suggests a family tie,  but I have not confirmed what that tie is!!

If you have any ideas then please let me know.

Best Regards

David
