Hi,
I would appreciate some help looking up info on Mildred Rose Harrison b 1780 Louth. A local writer is interested in doing a story about her in our newspaper "The Mercury" as her life was very interesting.
Mildred was convicted at the Old Bailey for stealing aprons. She was transported to Australia on the "Glatton" 1803. Her life in the Colonies began well but ended sadly.
She must have been reasonably attractive as she was quickly taken under the protection of Lt. Menzies with whom she had a son. When Menzies returned to England he left her with his friend Lt Johnson. When Johnson went back to England he left her and their daughter well provided for. My ancestor William Williams (convict) then married her.
Menzies son almost burnt to death, Johnson's daughter burnt to death, Mildred had a still birth, and her 6 yr old daughter with Williams drowned in a ferry accident.
Then Mildred was badly burnt when her clothes caught fire and she took 3 months to die. A sad ending for a pretty girl who stole some aprons.
My problem is that while I have alot of knowledge about her life while in Australia, I have very little information about her ancestors or life in Louth. Any info about the family or Louth at that time would be great.
Cheers Janine
