Hi, wonder if anyone can help me - I am trying to find the births of the following two people;

Walter Righton born in Warwickshire
Alice E Smith born in warwickshire
 All I know about them is that they married in Q1 1914 in Warwickshire and had their first child Alec in 1920.
Any help on this would be much appreciated, thank you.

Two possibles 1901 (without checking for spelling errors) for Walter
Walter W Righton parents Harry & Sarah C aged 8 born Bham Warwicksh living Aston Warwicksh
Walter W N Righton parents William and Emily M aged 8 born Clavendon Warwicksh living Quinton Glouces

If you have the marriage certificate this will give father's name and occupation - which will help identify Walter.

There are many names Alice Smith - a few Alice E Smiths - although they look older than Walter. A father's name would definitely help this one

If you can identify them in 1901, it will be easier to find the birth records available on Freebdm

Hey louise - that was quick 

You might be lucky with Walter - I went to check the marriage in 1914 to find the district - which is Warwick itself - and in Dec 1914 is a marriage for walter W N Righton - to a Marion Ball - so we can cancel that one.    

It may be that the other is your man -  I will post the details from that census for you

Probably need the certificate to confirm - especially since they are at Birmingham rather than Warwick, but it is the only other Walter easily found

Now I can't stop looking    Are you sure about the first child? There are the following on FreeBDM with mother's maiden name Smith

They could, of course be a different family - if they are yours, the names might be a clue to Alice - especially Hickford - looks rather like someone's maiden name

I'm not sure Alec was the first child, no. I just assumed he was, but looking at it logically if they married in 1914, 6 years was a long time before having their first.
The problem I am having is that I am actually doing research for a very good friend of mine. Its his family tree but he was adopted so its like the blind leading the blind at the minute.

Given the time - a lack of children is possible if Dad was away at WWI. You might find some wartime records as well - it is possible that he served. If these are his children it would also be that he came home on leave a few times as well    Righton is not very common, so I would think they may all be the one family.

I'm sure you'll both get it together but if your friend is willing to buy a few certificates - I'd start with the marriage. Then you should be able to pin down the 1901. Good luck with it all
