Hi spiritchild 3

You can add to some of the information you have by looking at that 1855 birth cert you have found for Helen Ferguson. The first year of official reg. in Scotland and the entries ran over two pages of the register. For births, it should include date and place of parents' marriage and how many children they'd had (alive/deceased). It should also include age and place of birth for parents.  Also, any of the birth certs for children born after around 1861 should include parents' marriage information.

This looks to be Hugh and Mary in 1861 - children all showing as born in Glasgow:

Hugh Ferguson 33, coachman, b. Ballantrae
Mary Melly 30, b. Cambuslang
Hugh Ferguson 12
Ann Ferguson 10
David Ferguson 8
Hellen Ferguson 6
Catherine Ferguson 4
Johann Ferguson 1

Address:26 Surrey Lane, Hutchesontown, Glasgow Govan

I can't easily see them in the 1851 census index, but this should be available on SP and will let you see what children they'd had up to that year who may have died before the 1861 census.

In 1871, with difference places of birth showing for the parents:

Hugh Ferguson 48, car man, b. Carraryan, Wigtonshire
Mary Ferguson 45, b Campsie, Dumbartonshire
Hugh Ferguson 21
Catherine Ferguson 14
Joann Ferguson 12
Margaret Ferguson 5
William Ferguson 1
Jane Hisbrey 38, boarder
John Hisbrey 12 , boarder

Address:32 King St, Tradeston, Glasgow Govan

A possible entry for Hugh Snr and family in 1841 -everyone showing as born in Scotland:

Hugh Ferguson 40, hostler
Mrs Jane Ferguson 45
Jonna Ferguson 20
Hugh Ferguson 18
Jane Ferguson 14
John Ferguson 12
Margaret Ferguson 10

Address: Trongate St 148, Glasgow St David

In respect of parents' details for wives Jane (Jean) and Mary, have you checked Scotlands People for death entries?
