my ancestor    he came from ireland to greenock and marrie mary-jane downie in st mary's at patrick strret in 1873  then came to bridgeton glasgow and made his life where he had where he brought up his family annie1877 ellen1879 (my grandmother ) john1874, mary-jane 1881, catherine frances 1891, isabella 1894, james 1897, margaret1882, ihave birth and marriage certificates for all but still do not know where in ireland they come from though im looking at co tyrone or even cork any further information would be helpful

Not sure what your ancestor's surname was but to try to trace anyone in Ireland you need to know where they lived and then see what records might survive for that particular area.
Have you checked all the census records in Scotland to see if even a county is listed (1871?, 1881, 1891, 1901)? There's a big difference between Tyrone or Cork but the name of the county itself isn't enough to start with for tracing families in Ireland.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

One avenue you can try is to look and see if they applied for poor relief at any point in Glasgow. These records are kept in The Mitchel Library in Glasgow and list family members, previous addresses, and in a lot of cases where born including the Co in Ireland. I've discovered a lot of information on various members of my tree from them.
