Could be obvious, but does anyone know what a club porter did? Given as an occupation in the 1901 census attached to someone who worked in a market town in Suffolk. I've not come across it before and any thoughts would be much appreciated.
Thanks

A Club Porter, aka hall man, hall porter, guarded the public entrance of the club to prevent the entry of unauthorised persons, opened and closed the door, received visitors, replied to telephone calls, posted letters, etc.

Thanks for suggestions - it's pretty much what I anticipated but I wanted to make sure.
Apologies for not acknowledging sooner.
