henry william turner dob 1828

Hi I am trying to find information on my great grandfather,
his name is henry william turner born 1828.
he was sent out to australia when he was 13 for stealing a pair of shoes, he had been in trouble many times and the authorities just got sick of seeing him
his parents had put him into a home in cheltenham, we are not sure how long he was there before he was sent out
he was sentenced at bristol
the attachment is his record from the tasmanian web site. his records he was on the elphinstone ship.
would love to find his family and if there are any decendants still around
have been looking for ages but just cant find a link, tried the different councils too
this is a photo of him he might resemble another family member

He appears to have been sentenced after the 1841 census; do you have his entry in that census? There are candidates in Cheltenham and Bristol.

I can't read all the document you have posted, so the answer may be there; but how do you know that he had been in a Cheltenham home, and that the authorities were sick of him? Is there documentary evidence or is it family tradition?

He is not listed as Henry William Turner on your document. When does his middle name first appear?

we have his 2 marriage certs, and birth certs from his children one son was my mothers father we got the middle name from there
there are a couple of other bits but just names of gaolers and constables lol

Had a very quick look online at the 1841 census for Gloucestershire and there are quite a few possibilities in Gloucestershire generally but only 2 in Cheltenham (assuming he was born in Gloucestershire).  Both of the ones in Cheltenham are living with their families.

Unless there's some other info, like names of possible siblings/parents etc. it's going to be difficult for you to narrow down which one he is.  As all of these entries are with families on the 1841 census, is it likely that he would have been tried 10-12 times in 6 months?

thank you so much for looking for me, we have had so many probs with henry as he would not talk of his life in the uk, so no one knows any details we only assumed his fathers name was william as he used this with his children and being part of his own name they used to use the parents name in the childs name
he has been a headache for many years we have others looking for him too but no luck

Don't his marriage certs give his father's or parents' names?  Have you found a death cert for him - I understood that they gave parents' names, assuming he died in Oz?

Have you found any record of his previous transgressions or searched for any assistance he might have received from the Board of Guardians (presumably in Cheltenham)?

If you look under Rootschat Common Room, Useful Links on 20/10 there is a link for access to British Newspapers. There were 2 articles in the Bristol papers regarding your Henry. Neither give clues to his parents , but you may like to see them.

nah neither had his parents names on it, we just assumed his dad was william, it is his middle name and he used it with his kids and grandchildren none were called henry in any part of their name
will try the newspaper one thank you so much guys you are such a big help he has been a pain for years, with nothing in his background
