Worsdall marriage c 1710
« on: Wednesday 26 November 08 12:59 GMT (UK) »
Is there anyone who would be able to help me find the marriage of Sherrard Worsdall/Worsdale to Anne (? Levis)  c1710

Sherrard Worsdall and Anne had 7 children baptised at Claypole between 1711 and 1725.  Anne died 1725 - 1727 and Sherrard died 1726.

Sherrard left a Will dated 1726 and on 5 January 1727 John Jessop of Carlton le Moorland and Simon Levis (described as 'uncle' to Sherrard's children) were appointed as their guardians during their minority of age.  Subsequent marriages and baptisms related to this family are nearly all recorded at Carlton le Moorland where they continued to live for several generations.

Thanks very much to anyone who can help

Claypole is in the Loveden deanery and I can't see anything for 1700-1753. Because Claypole is near the Nottinghamshire border it is quite possible the marriage may have taken place outside Lincolnshire.

Thanks very much for your reply - I think you are right - I  now need to look for the marriage in Nottinghamshire or possibly even Leicestershire as the name Sherrard Worsdall seems to crop up there, albeit at a later date.

Thanks again

Hi

Sherrard Worsdall/Worsdale is my 8 x Great Grandfather.

I do not know much about the marriage to Ann.  The Worsdall's were for a long time in Bassingham and Carlton Le Morland (in Nottingham now but still part of Lincoln then) as well as latterly in Horncastle.

I am due to go to Lincoln to the Records Centre to find more info on Sherrard if possible, if I find anything I will let you know.

Any chance of letter me know some more detail on the will??

Regards

David

Thanks very much for your reply and for looking for marriages connected to Sherrard Worsdall.  I believe that the 1742 marriage relates to the original Sherrard's son and the other two marriages to his grandson who seems to have married at least twice - I am still trying to sort him out!  Thanks again.

With best wishes

Rosemary

I am a Worsdall and my Father lived in Water Lane Bassingham, his Father was Wallace John Worsdall.

Would be interested in any ancestry already learnt.

Thanks for your message.  My direct ancestors all lived in Carlton le Moorland which is near to Bassingham and left the area around 1880 but there may be a connection through my great great grandfather's brother who lived in Bassingham. Would you be able to tell me a bit more about your father  - for example if he was originally from Bassingham, when he was born and if you know anything about his parents.
