Childrens Home in Greenock
« on: Monday 24 November 08 20:32 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone tell me if there was a Childrens Home in Greenock in 1936 and if there's any way I can find out if someone was in there?
I would appreciate any help.
Many Thanks,

Sandra

Hi Sandra
I'm not sure if the home on Grosvenor road was opened then
I will ask my aunt see if she knows my family were all brought up in Grosvenor road
so one of them should know
I dont know if there would be restrictions for so many years before the records
could be viewed if there were any
there is one other still in use so will pm you with their name
maybe they would be able to tell you when they were established

Hi, I was in Grosvenor Road Childrens Home from 1972 to 1980. I had the greatest lady I have ever known in charge of the place called Alice Fletcher who treated me more like a son than just another child in the home. Can anyone living in the area please tell me when she passed away as I really would like to pass on my respects by visiting her graveside. I was about 5yrs old at the time, so your talking about 1974(i think). Thank you

Hi Steevi1
welcome to Rootschat
looking on Scotlands People site there are only 2 deaths for an
Alice Fletcher they both died between 1995 and 1997
the 1997 one was the only one in Greenock
If you contact Inverclyde council they may be able to tell you
if she was buried or cremated or
if you are in the area you could go to the telegraph office and check the
back dated issues that would maybe have some reference to her occupation
