John Barr/Margaret McMeekin - Help needed

Hello - I am trying to find the parents of John Barr who married Maragret McMeekin on the 8th Nov 1935 (possibly in Kilwinning or Irvine). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there

Since you're looking for info from after the cut-off year there is not much that can be done from online on this one.  www.Scotlandspeople.gov.uk haven't released the modern marriage indexes yet so no way to confirm the marriage location and names.  If you are certain the marriage date is correct then you can either visit New Register House in Edinburgh in person and look up the marriage certificate yourself or Park Circus if Glasgow is closer for you....or....if you're too far away for that then contact GROS at http://www.gro-scotland.gov.uk/famrec/bdm.html and purchase the marriage extract from them.  This document should contain info on both sets of parents...whether they were living at the time of their children's marriage and occupations.  Of course you might strike it lucky and find some kind soul who is planning to visit Edinburgh or Glasgow and could have a peek at the marriage certificate on your behalf.

I've got McMeekin's in my family but none that I know of from Ayrshire or from the 1930's.

Sadly, it looks like Margaret died soon after her marriage to John. There is a death entry for Margaret Barr, other name McMeekin in New Cumnock for 1937.

Therefore John may have married again in the late 30s, early 40s.
