Do you mean the James MACAULAY emigrated to Australia in the 1950's.  He was born in 1915 but then you say you don't know his date of birth :-\

There is a record on findmypast of a J MACAULAY, Male  born c1917 leaving  Liverpool  in 1952 for Melbourne, Australia.

I am unable to help you with viewing the record as I don't have a subscription to the website.  Someone may be able to do a lookup for you if you make a new request with a heading like Passenger Record lookup 1950's or some such.

Does James have a 2nd given name?

Where was he born?

Do you have his parents' names as it may help identify him in the death indexes ie if he died in Victoria before 1985 and NSW before 1977.

From previous posts I appears you are located in Scotland so I assume that James did emigrate ;D

Cheers
Cando

Robert I did see that record but it seems that James MACAULAY emigrated in the 1950's.  I have searched on both Passenger Index and General Search on
http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/recordsearch.aspx
and can't find a James or J MACAULAY arriving in 1950's.

Cheers

James MacAulay     1916     Jan-Feb-Mar     Gateshead     Durham, Tyne and Wear

This one may be him:

This one may be him:
James F MacAulay     1917     Jan-Feb-Mar     Braintree     Essex

Name:     James MacAulay
Birth Date:    30 Aug 1902
Age:    55
Port of Departure:    Sydney, Australia
Arrival Date:    28 Dec 1957
Port of Arrival:    London, England
Ports of Voyage:    Sydney, Melbourne, Fremantle, Colombo, Bombay, Aden and Port Said
Ship Name:    Strathnaver

Name:     Mr James MacAulay
Birth Date:    1 Dec 1913
Age:    47
Port of Departure:    Sydney, Australia
Arrival Date:    18 Dec 1960
Port of Arrival:    London, England
Ports of Voyage:    Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Fremantle, Bombay, Colombo, Aden and Port Said
Ship Name:    Stratheden

Robert I think James may have been born in Scotland.

The passenger records you have detailed are for trips from  Australia to England.

I think Catherine will have to do a bit more homework before we can progress.  We need to have his full name and his parents' names and date of birth.

Cheers
