jackson's Rochdale
« on: Sunday 23 November 08 14:53 GMT (UK) »
looking for info on Abraham Jackson and family, born Rochdale 1887 his father was Richard Jackson, and mother Rachel (nee Maden).
In 1891 Richard was living with a woman Elizabeth Middlethwaite as a boarder with sons Abraham and James william, in Spotland. In 1901 Richard is now the head
of the house, still with Elizabeth Middlethwaite, but a child age 4 has been born.
Abraham is living with his mother Rachel in Spotland. anyone know anything about the Jackson  family.

Hi teessone

Welcome to Rootschat -

I'm not sure what information you have but had a quick look on Free BMD, Lancashire BMD  and the census - also the IGI - I think the name might be Micklethwaite.

Births
Ethel Micklethwaite born September quarter 1888
Annie Jackson Micklethwaite born September quarter 1896 (on the 1901 census)
Marriage
Richard Jackson and Elizabeth Micklethwaite March quarter 1909.

First marriage
Richard Jackson and Rachel Maiden? December quarter 1877

1881 census
Richard and Rachel Jackson sons Jas Wm(2) and Abraham(4m) living in the household of John and Mary Elizabeth Kershaw.
(marriages- John Kershaw and Mary Eliz Jackson 1876 or John Kershaw and Mary Eliz Holt1881).

1891 census
Rachel Jackson living with William and Nancy Mills -sister in law
(marriage William Mills and Nancy Maiden?September quarter 1875).

IGI
Baptism
James William Jackson and Abraham Maden Jackson both baptised 21/10/1887 St Chad Rochdale.  Parents Richard Jackson and Rachel.

Lancs BMD/Free BMD
Marriage
William Micklethwaite and Emma Wray 1853 Manchester Cathedral

IGI
Elizabeth Micklethwaite baptised 21/9/1862 St Chad Rochdale. Parents William
Henry Micklethwaite and Emma.

Lancs BMD/Free BMD
Deaths
William Henry Micklethwaite  1870 age 40.

Marriage
Emma Micklethwaite and James Holt 1876(Emma's second marriage?)

1881 census
Elizabeth Micklethwaite living as  the step daughter in the household of James and Emma Holt (her mother has re-married to James Holt) with her brothers and sisters William, Sarah,Elizabeth and Frank. Also a visitor William Wray who is probably Emma's brother? as it look s as if her maiden name was Wray.

Not sure about the Maden/Maiden surname on some of the marriages but it is a possibility.

Hope this helps

Apologies if you already have this information.

Regards

Neptune

Hi tessone

You're welcome. It might be an idea to send for certificates in order to make sure. (click on the reference number on the BMD sites to see how to order a certificate).

A marriage certificate gives the names of both fathers plus witnesses - also the address.
A birth certificate will give the father's and mother's names.

Lancashire BMD and Free BMD - Marriages -

Abraham Maden Jackson and Ethel Brierley 1902 September quarter (Rochdale Rgister Office or Registrar Attended)

Annie Jackson Micklethwaite and James Henry Hamer 1919  December quarter
St Chad Rochdale.

Births  Free BMD

From 1911 the name of the mother is also given

I could only see one possibility  Laurence Hamer born 1928 mother Middlethwaite?
There could be more but just not on the site

Herbert Jackson  born1914    Ernest 1915    Fred 1917    Isabella 1925 - all with mother's surname as Brierley.

http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk/

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

The 1911 census is due to be released in 1909 so you might be able to some more information on that census.

Good luck

I haven't researched my family, but if it's of any relevance, Alice Jackson of Spotland (family in Bury too) who was born around 1870, married into the Schofield family around 1895.
and lived in two addresses in Stanley Street.. two daughters Dorothy and Mary; Bob Jackson, Alice's brother, was a jeweller in either Rochdale or Bury..
