Just goes to show, if you live in a place you're the last to know what's going on.  There is nothing on the door of the City Record Office to say that they're closing, so there are going to be some surprised people.  What are we going to do for a year with no access to the records?
Godden in East Sussex, mainly Hastings area.
Richards in Lea, Gloucestershire, then London.
Williamson in Leith, Vickers in Nottingham.
Webb in Bildeston and Colchester.
Wesbroom in Kirby le Soken.
Ellington in Harwich.
Park, Palmer, Segar and Peartree in Kersey.

Sgt Tollers, are we talking about the same place???  It's the most uncomfortable place to work in - the microfiche readers are at a height which forces you to stand, something I can't do for long periods, and the indexing lapsed some time ago.  It'll be great to have a new place with good facilities.  Mind you, the staff were great.

Well, I was referring to the actual atmosphere more than anything. I must agree that it's very cramped in there and getting too many people in at once can cause havoc. I hope at the new place that the readers that they have for the census returns/newspapers are all electronic because the manual ones cause severe crampage!

Kind regards,
Sgt Tollers
