Cornelius Carman
« on: Saturday 22 November 08 07:38 GMT (UK) »
Cornelius was born in Wisbech in 1861, I can find him on the 1861 & 1881 census. He died in 1921 in Bedford. I know he married a lady called Clara Smart and they had a daughter born in Bristol in 1898 called Alice Clara.  I cannot find a record of Corneluis marriage, the birth of Alice, or him and or his family on the 1891 or 1901 census.  Any suggestions where I can go from here?
Stanbridge, Sharman, Summerfields & Mayhew in Bedfordshire.  Everetts originally in Norfolk moved to Lincs then to Bedfordshire. Dightons in Huntingdonshire.

Hi Grabridge,

Do you have access to census? In 1871 he's at RG10/1368 37 24 (leave surname out)

I wonder if this is far-fetched.

Birth Jun 1896 Bristol 6a 13
Elsie Clara Smart

1901 census
RG13/2400 11 13 & 14
17 Sussex Place

Henry Smart, head, 44, Boot Machinist, b. Gloucester
Clara, wife, 44, b. Bristol
Charley, son, 21, Box Maker (Cardboard), b. do.
Florence, dau, 19, Tobacco Factory Hand, b. do.
George, son, 16, Butcher's assistant, b. do.
Thomas, son, 12, b. do.
Fred, son, 10, b. do.
Elsie, dau, 5, b. do.

Maybe Cornelius married (or not) Clara later in life? (There's a possible death for Henry age 50 in 1907)

I can't see him at all in 1891 and 1901 but notice that he was in the Army in 1881. Maybe he was abroad, still in the army?  :-\
