Army Marriage in Bombay
« on: Friday 21 November 08 13:17 GMT (UK) »
We now know that Grandma married Sergeant Samuel Abrames at St Thomas`s Cathedral in Bombay on 5th Feb 1896.Samuel was in the !st Batt King`s Royal Rifle Corps at Tullunder. The witnesses at their wedding were Rose Pepper and WK Pepper.
Does anyone recognise the Peppers?

We first thought Sarah must have sailed out to marry him but are now wondering if her father might have been in the Army in India too.
Does anyone know how I can find out?
His name was Charles Peart. (deceased by 1896)

Many thanks,Carrie

In 1871 I can see a Sarah Peart (aged 1) in Bengrove, Gloucestershire, with a father Charles Peart.  However, I can't see this family in the 1881 census.  Father Charles was already 44 in 1871, and had possibly died by 1881, but perhaps one of Sarah's brothers was in the army in India? Or her brother in law? (her sister Jane is married in 1871, I think to Thomas Drinkwater although he is not in the household)
