1861 look-up please
« on: Friday 04 February 05 23:10 GMT (UK) »
Hi Folks,
Can someone kindly look up 1861 census for Hook?
I'm looking for John and Martha Stokes. They would be about 70 years old and I suspect John may have died by then but do not know for sure. Martha was born in Thames Ditton and John was born in Surrey somewhere. Known to be in Hook in 1841, although in 1871 Martha, now a widow, was in Cheam. Not found in 1851 census.
Many thanks folks.
Cheers
Barry ;D

Barry

Don't see why they can't be found in 1851/61?

Sorry Barry

The info from the 1841 should enable the 1851 to happen................

The 1841 didn't give place of birth or relationships and the ages are generally rounded down to a 0 or 5, so Martha could be 10-15=10 although mum and dad are specific with their age so perhaps you have a family who know exactly how old they are?

Y = born in County
N = not born in County

so yours was born Surrey

Have fun

HI Bryant,
Thanks for clearing that up for me. I didn't know about the younger Martha, a new one to look up!
Thanks again,
Barry
