« on: Wednesday 19 November 08 22:15 GMT (UK) »
Greetings All,
I am relying on you experts to help me find out all about this chaps service history etc for a friend of mine ,Good job I know who to ask!

       His date of Enlistment?,
                          His age at death ?
                               ,Cause of death ?
                                     ,Where he is buried?
Was there any conflict or Action at the time?
                                                Where he was Buried?
And the "coup de Grace" photo of his Grave or Memorial.

I know there are 2 CWWG Cemeteries in Cairo but only list burials from 1914 0nwards.
Hopefully he is in one of them.   . I dont ask much  LOL. I know how much you chaps and Ladies enjoy a challenge.

Image below from the GRO Army Death Indices.

So he was age 22.
This is the reference you need to apply for a death certificate, which hopefully will give cause of death

Was there any conflict or Action at the time?

Lets hope I will get some info about his burial place . I think he was still a civvy in 1906.if that will help any one find his enlistment.

Hi Rog

As he died in service before WW1 his papers would have routinely been destroyed 20 years later. One route would be to try and find a obitutary in his local newspaper. There is a good chance that his death certificate will have his regimental number. If so you may be able to find his approximate date of enlistment by comparing that to other KOSB men you can find.

Hi Ken & Neil , :) :)
Thanks for Input. I dont have a lot of luck with Service Records .Even my Dads WW1 record appears to have been destroyed by bombing in WW2, so its a bummer to find the Army deliberately destroyed records as a matter of routine.
In a flash of inspiration I E-mailed the British Embassy in Cairo ,asking if they have a Genealogy fan there who might be good enough to root arround to find the grave or memorial or let me have the E-mail address of the local CWGC office so I can contact them .
No reply as yet,I asked for a read receipt but haven't had that back yet.
(Iexpect it will be in triplicate if I get an answer or  my request will be filed in the bin)
Any chance any one on here planning a trip to Cairo? :D ;D
                                                                     Thanks again ,Rog.

I too would be intereste dto find out if they have anyone who can help with the genealogy. Some papers are on the national archives site for our family but going back further than my great grandfather is really difficult.
