Passport Photographs - Completed thank you
« on: Tuesday 18 November 08 13:09 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I need some advice on passport photographs.

Apologies if this is the wrong board.

There are 3 of us in the family that need to renew our passports and I was wondering if it is possible to take some with a digital camera and somehow print them off at the correct size, colour etc. Any tips please. We have tried the photo booths and they look dreadful as though we have had a fright. :o or something. You can imagine what they turned out like, not something I want on my passport for another 10 years ;D In fact they went in the bin.

Thanks Evie

Hi, I tried the photo booth route last year and the photos were rejected ???  So I went into Jessops and they took a set of photos, the cost was very low - can't remember what it was and the photos were fine.

I don't think taking them yourself would work, as you have to have the correct background, size of head and shoulders etc.

I second Lizzie's comments.

Taking them yourself is not really an option. Be sure to read the guidance notes about spectacles, smiles etc as anything wrong will lead to rejection.

I'm not sure how it works there, but in the States you can get your passport photo taken at the post office where you would also fill out the application to apply for the passport itself.

Hi All :)

Thank you for your replies. Very helpful. I don't think we have a Jessops nearby. Should be something similar though.

Aislin - I don't know about here (UK) but our post office doesn't as it is only a small town/village type but very good I have to add.

Hi evie

I took passport photos of Mr Gadget a couple of years ago when we were living in the rural NW and he needed then quickly.

You will need to have 'the subject' sitting level with the camera and a fairly flat lighting. I used natural light rather than flash but if you use flash make sure that you use the red eye minimiser (double flash). Take a few.

You can edit them in any graphics program until you get the correct image and print them out to the dimensions stated.
