Warwick Convict
« on: Tuesday 18 November 08 01:36 GMT (UK) »
 Hi
I am researching Thomas Deakin of Warwick, He was a convict sent to Sydney in 1791 on the ship Brittannia for 7 years.
He was born in Sutton Colefield in 1739
Would anyone know what his crime was.
Ruth

Hi Ruth  :)

Do you have Thomas's Ticket of Leave or Certificate of Freedom?  Either or both of those might have his crime recorded on them.  Also the list of convicts on board the Britannia may have something recorded.

Do you know where he was tried/convicted?

P.S.  I should have mentioned, in case you didn't know, that 1791 was the Third Fleet.  There is a bit of info on the internet about the Fleet and there are lists of the convicts on board.  Thomas's name is spelled "DEAKEN" on the lists.

The Warwick Assizes are available on-line where you can see those convicted who were sent to Australia.  My ancestor, Joseph Lucas was one of them. Do not have the thread handy but I expect it would come up on Google.

Unfortunately the database Graham refers to doesn't start until 1800.
you could contact the War.CRO. and ask if they are available for 1790-1.
