Looking for any information on this family.On alexanders death cert it said his father was also named Alexander Stewart(Male Merchant Service)?His mothers name was Jacobina Robertson. He left the village of Washington when he was 12 yrs old. He worked for the NBR from 1858-1908.

Have you got early census info for Alexander? This is his 1851 entry:

Jacobina Robertson 14, granddaughter, weaver, b Meige (from IGI - looks to be daughter of an Agnes Robertson)
Margt Fury 7, boarder, pauper, b. Dundee
Michael Fury 10, boarder, pauper, b. Dundee
Mary Meechan 7, boarder, pauper, b. England
Charles Nesbitt 3, boarder, pauper, b. Dundee

The only entry I am seeing for Jacobina Buist is this one:
