looking for Cyril fox
« on: Sunday 16 November 08 02:46 GMT (UK) »
My grandfather is Cyril Fox, between March 1940 and Dec 1940 he was at Edinburgh Castle I think he was in the RAF'S, My gran was a canteen Assistant and i think she was In the WAAF'S, My mother was conceived around that time and it was basically a one nite stand. All I know is he had blonde hair and worked close to my uncle Robert whom died in 2003 , He took all the info to his grave. Rumours were he was an irish catholic do that didnt go down well with my family :)

I'm afraid that is too vague of a request - for anybody to be able to give you a proper answer spiritchild !  :-\ ...... and it seems just speculation .... plus here on RootsChat - we have to be very careful in case there are living relatives !

Where do I start then? My grandfather as I was told was an irish catholic whom worked possibly in RAF, he was situated at Edinburgh Castle and my gran worked in the canteen there, how do I find this information. The year is 1940 and I think he came from Donegal

There is a Cyril Ernest Fox that died in 2000 age 79 in Banff.
He'd be about the correct age.

ScotlandsPeople is probably your best starting point for your Scottish records before you post on RC.
Other than for census records, it's very reasonable.

Probably best to gather specific facts first such as his date of death, birth etc.  Then you can try for his forces records.  Might confirm your suspicion about being based in Edinburgh around the time you think.

It's surprising in 8 years that you've not been able to find that death.

There's also a birth for a Cyril on SP, different age but again, not too far out to be the same man.

Anyway, I hope that one of them is the correct guy.
