Hartlepool baptism lookup-CHISHOLM
« on: Sunday 16 November 08 02:30 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,
I am looking for a baptism record for Martha Eleanor Chisholm. She was born in Hartlepool on 30 January, 1862. Her mother was Martha Chisholm and the father is unknown. I was hoping maybe the baptism record would shed some light on the father's name. I do not know which church in Hartlepool she would have been baptised in...she was born at Sandwell Chare (?. That is what it says on her birth cert.) and in the 1871 census was living at #5 Alfred Street with her mother and granddad. I don't think she was born at home, becasue home to the Chisholms was on Alfred street for about 15 to 20 years.
Thank you for any help you can give me!
Regards,
Squirrel

Hello,

Found marriage record for Martha Eleanor Chisholm to Richard Laybourn, 17 Nov 1877 at St. Hilda's Church, Hartlepool

Margaret's father is recorded as Donald Chisholm (Mariner) who was the son of Norman Chisholm.

It looks more likely that Martha's mother was actually Esther Ann Fowls who was married to Donald

Hi HM_Dava,
Thank you for your reply. Donald was Martha Eleanor's uncle. She listed him as her father becasue she either didn't know who her father was or didn't want to name him on ther certificate. By this time her mother was married to a John Meggison and the family then said he was Martha Eleanor's father and my granddad was named after him. (my granddad was Martha E. and Richard's grandson. He remembered John Meggison very well and thought he was his real great grandfather.) I appreciate your help though. I know the baptism record would be a long shot, but is doesn't hurt to try!
Thanks again!
