Bonser/Bonsor Breedon on The Hill
« on: Saturday 15 November 08 13:08 GMT (UK) »
My great grandfather was William Bonsor born in Breedon circa 1856. His mum was Ellen Bonser who married John Woodward in 1861. John wasn't Williams father. There is no father registered but family rumour seems to say that it may have been one of the family at Staunton Harold Hall !!!

I wondered if anyone may have info about the Bonsors or how to find out about records for Staunton harold hall.

There is a little bit about Staunton Harold Hall on this site http://www.derbyshireuk.net/staunton.html

It makes no mention of the Bonsor family but says it was owned by the Ferrers family until 1954.

This, however http://66.102.9.132/search?q=cache:d9Vvh0l0TAoJ:www.kairos-press.co.uk/pdf/staunton1.pdf+staunton+harold+hall&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=6&gl=uk is a link to a book covering the history of the hall.    You may find something in there.

Hi Sheila

Thank you for the info. Looking at the info on the internet there was a contact e-mail, so I have asked them if they know where the records are kept. You can but try :)

Hi Linda,
I couldn't find anything to connect your ancestors with Staunton Harold, but wondered if these might be useful:
www.google.co.uk/books?id=9XFwZYY13M4C&pg=PA471&dq=staunton+harold&lr=

www.google.co.uk/bboks?id=zf0cAAAAYAAJ&q=staunton+harold&dq=staunton+harold&lr&pgis=1

www.google.co.uk/books?idK_Q6AAAAIAAJ&pg=PA94&dq=staunton+harold&lr=#PPA94,M1

Kind regards,
Paulene :)
P.S. Tried Bonsor/Bonser Breedon on Hill, but sadly nothing much.

Hi Linda,
Apologies about that - the links don't work. Rootschat for some reason wouldn't let me copy the links (sometimes it does) and so I carefully transcribed them, but for some reason they still don't work.
Leave it with me and I will find a way round it.
Paulene :)

Hi Linda,
Right, let's try again:
If you put in 'The House of Commons, 1690-1715' into a google search the book should come up - then put Robert Stanley into the search facility.
Hope it works this time, Linda.
Fingers crossed.
Paulene :)
ADDED:
2nd one:
Go into google books - type in 'Family and Estate Records in the Leicestershire Record Office' - this should bring up a list of books, and one menioned is at the top of the list.
3rd one:
Go into google books - put in staunton harold - peerage - list of books should come up (numbers 2 and 3 are the same book with the info I thought you might like to see).

Sorry it's so complicated! :-[
Hope they do help!

Hi Paulene.

Thank you so much for the info. I haven't had time to try the links yet, this work thing keeps getting in the way :)

Will try them later and let you know how I get on.
