No record of death found
« on: Friday 14 November 08 09:56 GMT (UK) »
We have come against a wall looking for a man who is believed to have died between 1901 and 1907 as these are the dates of his marriage and his widow's remarriage. His death does not appear to be registered in England as we have searched the registers at what was Catherine House.  It has been suggested that he may have been a seaman and died at sea. How and where could we follow up on this possibility? Or are there any other avenues we might explore? His late widow was known in living memory, but did not ever speak of her first husband to those who remember her. We are grateful for any suggestions.

If no death can be found, emigration must be a possibility.  If his "widow" never spoke of him, it may be that she was abandoned rather than widowed. Outbound passenger lists for the relevant period can be found on the paysite www.findmypast.com.

Yes what you say makes sense.  Thank you all very much for replying and for your thoughts.  It gives us a new direction to turn and to follow up.

I'm reluctant to name the man.  He was born in Devon, 1872, and became a carpenter.  In 1891 he lived with his first family in Lambeth. Still in Lambeth, 1901, he married and in 1902 a son was born to this union. After this he slips from our records.

Thanks for all this.

Good searching to you all.
