Absolutely pure gold Lud, that's her daughter Trixie with her in the top picture. Is "Pat" Pat Woods?

They always had dogs in the house, cheaper than expensive burglar alarms  ;D

Jane's mother was also a publican, she had two pubs in Coatbridge, so she probably learned from her!  ;D

Thank Lodger,
I don't know Pats surname, however I still remember, Many Moons ago returning empty beer bottles we found, to the wee Snug at the door of the pub ,where Pat would Scrutinize the label for the Beehive Bar stamp, before he would part with the pennies.  ;)

That was Badger, not Lodger Sancti  ;D ;D ;D I'd never look for a free pint  ::)

All Jane's children have gone now, Ellen died in Chicago, USA. Fr John was a partner in Trixie's lawyer's business in Motherwell. They all had brilliant minds and 1st class educations, thanks to the Beehive! The "new" premise's in Shields Road was "The Bullfrog" pub, Trixie sold it a couple of years before she died and it went slowly downhill after that. Now, it's a burned-out shell which is an absolute eyesore.  Sic transit gloria mundi.

Well done Sancti, another blast from the past! All those folk gone now, apart from the 2 Burke boys, (Ellen and Thomas' adopted sons) Good picture of Trixie, she never changed over the years. I'd forgotten how tiny Jane became but she could still clear a pub at closing-time on a Saturday night without anyone's help. She had a fine set of lungs on her.
I look down on bishop Thompson's grave from my office window in the Dalziel Building on Scott Street, a lonely spot for so many years but at least he has Joe Devine for company now.
Interesting to read the little bit about Fr Noel Carey to the side of the main article, he was a great favourite of my granny's and used to bring her a 1/4 bottle of brandy when he visited her. We always liked to hear that he had been as she was strictly tee-total. She used to put the bottle under the kitchen sink beside the bleach and cleaning stuff but we always found it! Happy dazes   ;D
