Have both indexes and willing do to look-ups.

Hi Elaine,
If offer still open I am trying to locate  William SIMPSON b. abt 1730 and wife Marion LAING. The only child I know of is daughter Margaret who married James HUME in 1752. He was a schoolmaster at Lasswade. I would appreciate any knowledge of SIMPSON or LAING burials.
TIA Lyn

Hello
What a lovely offer, if you dont mind im looking for and have been for years, David young or williamson as it comes up sometimes parents. David died in Newton in 1849 from Asthma, informant being His son andrew young.
if he has a grave maybe there is others there named, his daughter margaret is also in cemetery at Newton.  I believe David was 68 when he died, his wife was Marion Selkirk.....married in Duddingston.
Thank you

I have just discovered this post and hope the offer still is open.
Burial of John Bruce who died on 18 Jan 1881 his wife was Margaret who died 7 Sept 1878 they were living at Easthouses, Newbattle. He was a miner.
With thanks, Kerri

Sorry just saw this. I don't receive notifications & rarely look on here any more. If you still want burial details here they are:

Plot # 8/4 Stephen Bruce aged 47 Newtongrange, interred 2/10/1897
Janet Bruce aged 71, Newtongrange, interred 25/07/1925

Plot # 8/5 Margaret Bruce aged 70 Easthouses, interred 10/09/1878
Georgina Bruce aged 15 Newtongrange, interred 4/12/1895

John Bruce aged 1 month, Dalkeith, interred 2/11/1871
John Bruce aged 76, Easthouses, interred 20/01/1881

Margaret Carswell, aged 72, Monkswood, interred 2/09/1907

Were John & Margaret the parents of Violet Bruce b. 1831 & married to George Brown? If so they are in my tree!

Have I already answered this one because your names are highlighted in my book? Sorry if this is a repeat. David Young he was buried July 1 1849, in Newton New grave yard, 185s3.
His wife Marion is buried in Lair 170s3. There is several Margaret's. One if Margaret Young, died aged 34 of dropsy, sister to Andrew Young. Buried Dec 2 1852 in Lair 170s2. There is most likely no stone. I've been to the Newton graveyards many times and only the wealthier could afford headstones. I personally have 100's of family members buried there and not one has a stone.

Newton Index:
Marion Laing unknown age, Address, Woolmet Newton, date of death, Dec 1752; date of burial, Dec 21st 1752, Burial Place, Liberton, Other info: Spouse to William Simpson
Only 2 Humes in Newton, a Campbell & Marion.
There are several children listed with a William Simpson as father but no way of knowing if it's the same family.
No Simpson's or Humes' to match in Newbattle index

Hi Elaine,
Would be very grateful if you would do a look up for me for Peacocks in Newton and Newbattle for c 1785-1810  parents names were John Peacock and Rosanna Brown.I have found the births but having difficulty finding deaths.

I have many ancestors who died in Newbattle and would be very grateful if you could tell me where you bought your list .

Thanks.

Hi, I got the info for Rosy Brown in my own tree!

OPR death record:

DOD: 19th April 1842
DOB: 22nd April 1842
Name: Rosana Brown
Address: Easthouses, Newbattle
Informant: John Peacock, son
COD: water in chest (prob. pneumonia)
Age: 82 yrs

Let me look & see if I can find John's info. Which one of their children are you descended from?
A friend of mine has worked for the Lothians FHS for years and she actually transcribed the Newton death index so I was lucky to get copies of both that & the Newbattle index from her. However, I think they are now available from the website: http://www.lothiansfhs.org/node/277
