John Vasey
« on: Thursday 13 November 08 14:25 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for any information on a John Vasey born around 1889. Perhaps in the Glasgow area. He later married a Bridget O'Donnell in 1919.

Any help would be gratefully accepted.

1889 VASEY JOHN DICKSON M ST ROLLOX GLASGOW CITY/LANARK

His marriage entry from 1819 will give both parents names, fathers occupations, and both mothers maiden names.  Entry can be downloaded at the ppv site www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk   Regards,   Steve  :O)

Hi bullywee,

Do you have the names of John's parents from his marriage entry to Bridget? There is only one John Vasey b. in the Lanarkshire area for that time, and that was John Dickson Vasey in 1889 in the St Rollox district of Glasgow. His parents were Thomas Vasey, glass-blower (journeyman) and Jane Vasey m.s. McDirmaid. They married 1880 in Glasgow.

Edit: The SP index shows the 1919 marriage for a John D Vasey and Bridget O'Donnell in Blythswood. Right person then. :)

To get you back a bit further in England, Thomas' marriage to Jane shows his parents as Thomas Vasey, cooper and Mary Vasey m.s. Fzow (or Fsow?).

This looks like them in 1881:

Address: 29 Orchard Street, Newcastle, Northumberland
Thomas Vasey, m, head, 65, cooper, b. Brancepeth, Durham
Mary ", f, wife, 66, -, b. London, Middlesex

A marriage shows for them in Dec. 1836 at Newcastle. Also two children: Thomas Veasey (1842, Newcastle) and Dickson Vasey (1853, Newcastle).

Many, many thanks to everyone who made the effort and responded to my query.  All the information was very useful and accurate.  Indeed I was able to confirm much of the information at my Grandpa's 85th birthday this past weekend  ;D

Once again, your help has been very much appreciated.

Hi there

I am currently starting to research my family tree, and Thomas and Jane Vasey were my great great grandparents!

If you have anymore information about this tree, I would love to maybe chat.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Louise
