If he married in Scotland then his parents names should be on his MC, available to view on SP

Thank You Sancti,
I think they married in Belfast Ireland. I believe he had another family before marrying Frances. First wife was Anne O'Brien, he was 17 yesrs older than her & 11 years older than Frances.   I found this info in letters & hand written notes from my mother, Mum had a researcher in Ireland many many years ago, but Johns birth certificate was never found.  Hence the brick wall.
Kind regards, Phyllis

Hi Phyllis,
I can't believe that  I  just accidentally found your emails.  I was born after my family moved into 531 Royston Rd.,  in 1934.  When I was about five years old , our neighbours moved out and the Murphys  moved in next door.  I knew your grandmother and grandfather so well.  I also knew your  mother Mabel, she was in the Land Army during the war.  I knew them for at least 15 years and yet I didn't know that your grandmothers name  was actually Frances, like mine.  The Holden family lived above us and were really nice  people.  Margaret was the eldest girl and as a four year old , I remember Margaret taking me  on picnics. Jack, I only vaguely remember as being blond and rather quiet.

Hello Dolly58,
I'm so surprised & happy that you have got in touch with me. As you can imagine, I'm so anxious to know about my grandparents & their lives. I found my first cousin Jack, son of Margaret & Jack. Unfortunately with cousin Jack being so young when my grandparents passed on, he is unable to tell me much. I was surprised to find out through cousin Jack, that we have a half cousin, Jack, a Dentist.  Which is the son of Grandfather Jack's first son Jack. It has been so confusing with them all named Jack.
I would also like to know about my mothers young life in Glasgow.I I would love to have an insight to life in Glasgow at that time.
There is so much I would like to ask you.
I'd be grateful if you could   PM me & we could exchange email address's.
Sincerely, Phyllis :)    :-*

Hi Phyllis,
I found this site by sheer chance, so you were my first posting . I believe that  I have to have at least three postings before I can send a PM.
I called my sister in Glasgow today and we spent quite a while remembering Royston Rd. and all our old neighbours.  My  sister is 85 but no one would believe it. She still does ballroom dancing every week and I believe all that excercise is responsible for her very clear mind.  She can recall conversations with your Grandmother Mabel as though they happened yesterday.
Your mother must have been around 19 or 20 when they arrived in Germiston but they originally lived in 'the' Gorbals as it was called then. Our  houses were only about 15 years old by this time,  very well built, not fancy. Our neighbours were all decent, hard working people and I never set eyes on a rat until long after I arrived in Canada.
Speak to you soon,
Frances

Hello Frances,
I'm just amazed that your sister is able to remember conversations with my grandmother as if it was yesterday.   Hopefully you and your sister may be able to clear up some conflicting information I have on my Murphy's.
I do believe it was recently proved that ballroom dancing assists in agility & mobility  & helps keep the brain young. Good on your sister. I only hope I will  survive to the ripe old  age of 85.
I have found this site very helpful & have had assistance with some    RC's ( Roots Chatters)  that assisted me in locating my Murphy Grandparents Death certificates & also my baby Sister's death cert.  I had been searching a couple of years. The  Murphy name is so common,I didn't realise that Jack stood for John either & of course I didn't know the geography.  I managed to find cousin Jackie through his parents, Jack & Margaret's death certificates.Cousin Jack was the informant so I took a chance & wrote to the address on the cert. Cousin Jack was very surprised when I contacted him. Apparently we played as children in Crianlarich.
I just can't believe I'm talking to my grandparents neighbours.  :o WOW WOW  A few tears are falling :'(    :'(
Bye for now TC   Phyllis
