« on: Monday 10 November 08 18:45 GMT (UK) »
Strange one coming here all...!!

Does anyone live near or close to Brick Lane, London... my gt grandfather was born there... and my nan would like to see where he was born, but due to mobility problems can't manage the journey.  If anyone goes there, can they take a photo of no 134 for me, i believe now to be a bangledeshi restuarant and has flats above.  Strange ask i know but would make an old lady happy!! x

I off over to England at the beginning of December, hoping to get to London, and if I do, will try to get to Brick Lane for you.

I may be able to help you.  I'm going to The Whitechapel Bell Foundry on Saturday and I have to walk from Liverpool Street station.  I'll try to do a detour and take a picture.

Hi all... thanks for replying... would really appreciate it those who may be able to help me out, thank you very much.
Tsu.... my family started there in 1895, would yours have been there then?  Barnett Kosky and Yetta Kliman came from Poland and Germany and moved in to 134 Brick Lane, having 2 boys Joseph Kosky (my gt grandfather) in 1897 and Jack Kosky in 1905, boys went into workhouse around 1906, with parents moving onto mile end and later Hoxton, Dalston area.

Hi Kerry.

Yes, my Stanley family have been in Shoreditch since at least 1720.  The Jones lot since 1790 (that's as far back as I've got so far), the Wood family since 1770.  My Happe's only arrived (in St. Georges in the East) in about 1820, so they are the incomers!  LOL

I was born in Whitechapel but now live in Essex.

You can take the girl out of the east end, but you can't take the east end out of the girl.  ;D

I will try to go past No.134 on Saturday and take a couple of pictures.

I have listed the Brick Lane area, showing street renumbering. This may be useful dependent on when your ancestors lived there.

Hi Kerry

My ancestors came from the Brick Lane area but they lived there when the Huguenots came yet some were still in the Brick Lane area in the 1820s. I have taken a few of my own personal photos of the street as well.
