Pub in Rhos R.D.

I am after help in tracing where my g.grandfather William Brooke was when he died. I have his death certificate which shows his occupation as Innkeeper and his place of death 8 Penry St, Rhos R.D. - Is this the pub address and what was it called?

Hi there,

Unfortunately more pubs have disappeared from Rhos than now exist in the village.

According to the B.B.C. (north east) Wales web site, in the section on Rhos, there is no mention pub, either present or past, in Penry Street. However, that is based on personal memory of the author and may not go back to the time you are looking at; which is, by the way?.

I would have thought that if 8 Penry Street was a pub then it would have been named on the certificate as such.

Forgot to put he died in 1929 and at that time had a wife Mary who was a good deal younger than him, she was still alive in the 1950's but I don't know whether she stayed in Wales.

Hi there again,

I've had a look at a database I have access to and there is nothing in present day Penry Street to indicate that any of the remaining houses were pubs, ie. there is no Old ....... name of pub.

You may be pleased to know that 8 Penry Street still exists.

 You are quite right, I have found something on the web for No 6 ,
Have you tried the electoral registers, or maybe an obituary will have more details.
 There are Wrexham papers and other local to the Rhos area in Wrexham museum.

On page 2 of this  document, it has Ponciau North electorate and the streets it covers, Penry street is one of them. . Might help just a little bit
