How accurate is the WW1 deaths cd-rom at National Archives?

I recently visited the national archives find out more on an ancestor I thought might have died in world war one.
I checked the CD-rom of soldiers and officers who died in WW1 and he wasn't on it.

However, i forgot to ask is this definatively means he didn't die in WW1.

Anyone know how accuarte it is? what sort of percentage it accounts for?

I have found relatives on the CWGC site but no trace of them could be found on the CD.

Check the War Graves site  http://www.cwgc.org/cwgcinternet/search.aspx it could give a better idea

The other useful (albeit not providing national coverage as yet) source of information is www.rollofhonour.com where transcriptions of war memorials are provided, together with potted biographies of the dead. Be warned however that it is not uncommon for the biographies to be associated with the wrong person. If you see one and wonder what on earth that person was doiing being commemorated where he was, that is probably because they have got him mixed up with someone else.

The National Roll of the Great War (if it was published for the area concerned) was collated from information provided by relatives so may not be complete.  Unfortunately, the company went into liquidation before the the project was complete.

If you believe your ancestor to have died WW1, it is worth checking the WW1 death indexes specifically for Army, Navy etc. at the GRO.  My husband's gt grandfather was not registered with CWGC yet has a standard naval headstone.

I didn't even know there was anything at the GRO other than th standard births marriages and deaths. When you say GRO is that the Family Record Centre place in Islington? Can I just go there and see it?
