Which Cemetery ?
« on: Saturday 08 November 08 15:54 GMT (UK) »
An ancestor died in 1931. He died at Seafield Street, Leith but normal residence was at Bangor Road, Leith. His death was registered at South Leith Register office. Can anyone tell me which cemetery he is most like to have been buried in? Failing which, can someone tell me where I can go to find such information? Thanks.

George

Hi There,

There is a large cemetery at Seafeild crematoria. There is also one in Easter Road, failing this you can phone the council on 01312002000 and they will put you through to the dept or you can get their email address on the  city of Edinburgh web site.  Some of the cemeteries are privately owned in Edinburgh, but the nice lady there will advise you of this.  you sould tell them the person's name, DOB, date of death and place of death.

Regards,
Lynda

Hi Lynda,

Thanks for the advice, I have just sent an e-mail to the bereavement services at Mortonhall, Edinburgh with my greatgrandfather's details, so we'll see what comes of that.

Thanks again,

George

Lynda,
The lady at Mortonhall was a great help. Unfortunately there were no records of any of my ancestors being buried in council owned cemeteries but the lady emailed me a list of the privately owned cemeteries in Edinburgh and I found the staff on these companies most helpful too. I finally was able to locate the graves I was looking for. Unfortunately none of them have head stones. However, I am pleased that I now know where my great grandfathers are buried.

Thanks again,

George
