Sarah MOAT marriage lookup please
« on: Friday 07 November 08 17:53 GMT (UK) »
If anybody has got any resources that they can check for the following marriage, I would be most grateful:

Sarah MOAT (MOTE/MOOT/MOUT) marriage to Thomas ................. (Thomas is the forename) somewhere between about 1795 and 1812 (possibly nearer 1812) and probably in East Kent ie. Canterbury/Eastry/Folkestone areas or even any Sarah MOTE marriages in that time frame in that area.

Many thanks

Casalguidi :)

Yes, I think that's a bit late plus I think she could be the one in Eastry 1841 & 1851 bc1767 (age at marriage would be a bit out) Eastry whilst the one I'm looking for was born c1781 Folkestone.

Marriage now found - thankyou!

I have a Sarah Moat in my tree christened 2 Feb 1780 in Folkestone.  She was the daughter of Richard Moat and Ann Austin.  Is she your connection?

Yes, she is the one I was enquiring about and later married Thomas KIDHAM of Folkestone.

A friend has recently obtained for me a copy of this marriage certificate and on this Sarah Moat's husband's name looks more like Thomas KIDORN to me?

Also, can I ask, do you know anything about the parentage of her father Richard Moat?  From a process of elimination I suspect that he was my 1st cousin 6x removed, but I have no proof of this.

Thanks in advance

It's definitely KIDHAM.  I was working backwards but purposely left the surname out of the query as it was probably miswritten/misheard/mistranscribed etc. which it turned to be.

I haven't looked into the MOAT(E)s too much as yet but suspect Richard is most likely the one buried in Staple 1828 (born c1751).  There is a lot of alternating between the parishes of Folkestone ........ Staple for marriages and burials yet Folkestone for baptisms (the children of Richard MOAT and Ann AUSTIN).  The original parish register may well give an abode for this Richard's burial which, if Folkestone, would add further weight to him being the husband of Ann.

Richard and Ann were bachelor (of Folkestone) and spinster (of Staple) respectively on marriage but I do not have names of the witnesses which may help (1 Sep 1779 Staple).

Assuming he was born c1751 then he may well be the son of John and Sarah baptised Nonington but that is just a possible for me at present.

Thank you!  Yes I have Richard Moat 1751-1828, and his marriage to Ann Austen had witnesses John Moat (could be either father or elder brother so not helpful) and William Cousens (again not helpful).  I have him as the son of John Moat and Sarah Unknown born 1751 in Nonington but have no proof....

Any light you can shed would be greatly appreciated....

Thanks

Matthew
