any idea's of what regiment this is (could it be the seaforth highlanders)

we recently came across this pic of my ggreat grandad but im unsure of what regiment it is i know that he played the drum in the regimental band
and a family member said they think it maybe the seaforth highlanders
but other than that nothing

    its not the seaforth  highlanders they wore the mackenzie tartan
if you know what war, his name ancestry is free to search military records
untill monday find medal cards service records will tell you his regiment,
also post the photo on a ww1 forum someone on there will know

The sporran is more similar to the Seaforth Highlanders. But the sporran badge does not seem to be the right shape. Could your ancestor have been in a civilian pipe band after leaving the army?

Notice that the colours are reversed on the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders.

photo is of sgt john mackay 2nd and 7th seaforth
tartans are totally different,
on your own photo the cap badge is the wrong shape
for the seaforth which consists of only a stags head and antlers
and motto below those,
the sporran is a dress sporran not worn in battle,

john mackay a piper at the somme wounded 5 times but survived

the outfit he s wearing is a touch confusing
the glengarry  resembles the blackwatch glengarry
the sporran dress seaforth
the tartan resembles neither
could this photo have been taken after the war
and was he in a band after the war
is there anything written on the back,
 to get any proper answers on the outfit
i suggest posting it on the great war forum
they re very helpful on there and i m sure
someone will know.
