Lydart I don't know when you used chatroom, but I use it quite often and I would say the average age would be 40/50. You would be welcomed to come in anytime and you take things at your pace no one would hurry you.

Sometimes people sit in other rooms for a while when they don't like to leave but want a bit of peace, or have banished themselves. Jiminwales often goes to wales and MatthewR sometimes puts himself in England......... I like the chatroom the way it is (but the overflow into room 2 can be quite scary when you realise you are on your own......!)  ;D

I know I've gone in when it's been really busy and automatically went into Common Room 2, but then I just get someone on personal message in Common Room 1 and they invite me in and I get in that way.

Hi Lydart,

This thread encouraged me to go into the Chatroom for the very first time just a short while ago.

It was initially very puzzling - thinking back I suspect that was probably because there was no-one else there!

Then a couple of messages arrived saying a couple of people had entered the chatroom.  After a couple of boo-boos I twigged that there was a box down the bottom in which to post and send a message - so I did (asking for advice on using the chatroom).  Very helpful replies!

I've left while I think about it all.  I'll try again when there might be more people around  :)

Incidentally, I'm definitely not teens or 20s, and far beyond 40/50   :'(

Cheers,

JAP

Lydart

Just to say that there are a lot of people who come into the chatroom who are in their 60s, 70s and even 80s!

We always encourage people to take their time and join in when they are ready.  You will usually get a lot of hallos when you arrive and regulars recognise when someone is new and try to "look after" them!

I had never been in a chatroom before - I went in for the first time in March this year, filled with trepidation, but it has been worth it.

Lots of good research, help and advice on offer and we have been known to break down a few brick walls.

If you want to come in some time PM me and I will make sure I am there to help you!

I've been to the chatroom a few times and have peeped into the other rooms - never anyone there.  I'd have to say I found the experience unrewarding.  Lots of people saying "hi"  and "bye"to each other as they come and go and a bit of inconsequential chitchat.  Maybe it just requires more time to encounter the valuable nuggets there.

Hi Lydart my dear buddy!

I don't go in the chat room as much as I used to - usually due to time constraints - BUT - I can assure you there are some very, very, very old people in there! Including ME and I am older than you!

 ;D ;D ;D ;D

Also - Yes, sometimes it is Hi and Bye and chit chat - many of us have known each other for years and like to hear about the kids or the old man- but if you stick around you will see  interesting genealogy questions and answers! AND it is so interesting to have people from so many different parts of the world in one place at the same time - great fun!
