MEDICAL TERM/CAUSE OF DEATH
« on: Thursday 03 February 05 16:07 GMT (UK) »
I don't know if any one can help me with this query - I am trying to find out the cause of death of my grandmother's brother (I think that would make him my great uncle?).   He died at the tender age of 13 years (in November 1910) of - what looks like - 'Morbus Cordis Syncope'.     Does anyone know what this is?   Would be grateful for any suggestions.

Many thanks for reading this,

Marjorie

Hiya,

from a quick Google, I'm told that morbus cordis is simply heart disease and syncope is sudden death

Hello,

I believe the Morbus Cordis refers to Disease of the Heart and the Syncope refers to unconsciousness or coma

Hope that helps

Jonathan

As previously said, Morbus Cordis is Heart Disease and
Syncope is loss of consciousness.

He may have had Scarlet Fever which  killed a lot of young adults then.  My ex-husband had a brother who died of a heart attack at 15  back in late 1930's after having had it. The child would recover from the disease but the heart was left permanently weakened and any stress/exertion could kill.   Leagen

Hi,

Another possibility as a precursor to heart disease could be rheumatic fever. It is defined as: A severe infectious disease occurring chiefly in children, characterized by fever and painful inflammation of the joints and frequently resulting in permanent damage to the valves of the heart.

It is listed on my favorite website for causes of death www.antiquusmorbus.com

Best Regards, Rumire

Sorry to stick my oar into someone else's topic but thank you Rumire for giving that website www.antiquusmorbus.com.

I have wondered for years what was the cause of death of one of my ancestors. The certificate just says 'DECLINE'.

I now know.

Thanks again

Robert
