I once gave my address to a lady on the telephone so that she could send me a prospectus.  At the time I lived in Wivenhoe and I was quite miffed when the envelope was addressed to "WITHERNHOE".  I speak well and clearly, with no East Enders accent.  I felt she had just assumed I wasn't intelligent enough to speak properly.

Not wanting to create a heated debate on spelling or grammar but what about the people who are dyslexic? are you not going to do look-ups if they spell a word wrong?.

Do roots-chat create another forum for people who type in abbreviations?

Text type should not make any difference to look-ups, yes it would be polite if we all used the correct grammatical procedures but not everyone talks like the upper-crust gentry of 18th century london, which is what our current ENGLISH is based on, we all have our own dialects and accents and with that comes with that regions peculiarities. Text type is just the modern equivelent of accents, only its spread across the country and not by region, and yes it is lazy and quick and thats why the younger generation like it.

Now you are being serious!

If you only checked back on some of the look ups that Carole, Jen and I and others have done, you will see that we go out of our way to be helpful and usually solve the problem.

However, it is really nice to have a request that is clearly stated and with all the known information before we go searching.

Yeah I just thought that  ;D LOL  ;D

Can't you split the sentence into two to make it shrink back to normal width?

I could but then everyone who quoted me would have to modify as well. Also, it defeats the object of my exercise.  I'll make it a smaller font if the others will modify their quotes as well.

Done it - you need to reduce my quote to 6 point  8)

Or modify your posting by replacing the original quote with the modified one

I have noticed text speak creeping onto quite a few forums, whilst i can decipher quite a bit of it fairly well i just find it a real pain when put in a lookup request.

I can forego mis-spelling to an extent, and sometimes it is a typo anyway but to me it's just plain lazy to type wiv instead of with.
