Turner / Brown in NSW
« on: Tuesday 04 November 08 20:57 GMT (UK) »
Hello there. This is my first post here so I hope I don't make too many mistakes....

I am looking for any information for the following (presumed) immigrants to Australia. We have in amongst our family documents a photograph of a couple with two children, taken in a photograhic studio in Sydney, NSW.

The woman is my great grandfather's sister.

Her name is Marian Elizabeth BROWN, born 1884 in Newington, London, UK. The photograph says 'love Jack and Marian' but I have no idea of her married name. I have found a marriage certificate showing a Marian Elizabeth Brown marrying a John Conrad TURNER, born 1882, married 5 Aug 1906 in St Barnabas Church, Rotherhithe, London, UK.

I can only surmise that John was known as Jack (hence the photo) as all other evidence matches.

Therefore I am searching for a John (or Jack) Conrad TURNER and a Marian Elizabeth TURNER arriving in Australia after 1906 and subsequently having two daughters - although I don't know whether either child was born in the UK or Australia.

Many thanks

Wow -

I wasn't expecting any replies for a while so many thanks!

As far as I am aware, my Marian Elizabeth's mother was called Maria, but I don't have a full birth certificate for her at the moment so that is something I would need to check. Marian Elizabeth's mother died in 1890 so doesn't appear on the 1891 England census and I haven't yet located the family in 1881 census.

As for John Conrad TURNER, his father is given as John William TURNER on the marriage certificate, and his mother's name is Ann E (TURNER), on the 1891 England census.

Many thanks for your prompt response

William

William

you can search online,  for further marriages,  and deaths in that family,  as NSW bdms are online for certain years.......those births are not on there,  but other stuff will be,

Cheers

If you check the NSW bdm's  there is 2 John C TURNER deaths that could be John Conrads, that being his death before 1936,  =   1928 or 1921

JOhn C TURNER died 1928 HUrstville - parents John W and Elizabeth.....

or

John C K Turner died 1921 with parents William and Margaret -  died Sydney

Many thanks for that -

As I have said before, in the 1891 England census his mother is listed as Ann E so it is likely that the 1st person you mentioned is the Turner I want, as his father was a John William.

Both the place where the children were born and the place where he died are now suburbs of Sydney, so they're not too far away from each other either.

Many thanks once again

William
